Our Central Location

Dorset House is right next to Victoria St, the most vibrant street in Christchurch. Victoria St has boomed in the rebuild of Christchurch since the 2011 earthquake. A hub of restaurants, bars and uber-modern architecture, Victoria St is the future of Christchurch and Dorset House is a minute's walk from its epicentre.

A minute in the other direction, is the vast and tranquil space of Hagley Park. The Botanic Gardens and Canterbury Museum – both must-see Christchurch attractions – are also within short walking distance (10 to 15 minutes) of our hostel.

The cheap and efficient airport bus - number 29 - passes Victoria Street twice an hour and is only a 3 to 5 minute walk from us. 

Dorset Street is quiet, in the middle of the central city and easy to find. 

Getting to Dorset House

Dorset House is located at 1 Dorset St in Christchurch, between Park Terrace and Victoria St.

Bus from from the airport
Catch the 29 bus from the airport and get off at Victoria Street (the Bealey Avenue end).

Walk down Victoria St and take the first right turn into Dorset St. Dorset House is at the end of the street next across from Hagley Park. Click here for the 29 bus timetable.

Shuttle
If you are arriving late, or just have lots of luggage, we can organise a shuttle for you. Contact us with your flight number and estimated time of arrival and we can arrange for a shuttle to collect you at the airport and take you to Dorset House. It costs $19-24 for the first person, with a $5 charge for each additional person. Shuttles can also be organised for return trips back to the airport. 

Taxi
Taxis cost about $45 to $50 from the airport. 

I'm arriving by bus
Dorset House is right in the middle between our two national bus depots. We're 25 minutes walk from the Bus Exchange in Lichfield St, which is used by Intercity bus and Atomic Shuttles (or take the Blue Line or bus 29 to Victoria Street), and 10 minutes from the Naked Bus, Akaroa Shuttles and French Connection depot by Canterbury Museum.
